SCHOOLCHILDREN have completed a run to support a charity set up in memory of Viola Beach guitarist River Reeves.

The River Reeves Foundation was set up by the guitarist's family to help keep his legacy alive.

River was 19 when he was killed in a car crash in Sweden alongside Kris Leonard, Jack Dakin, Tomas Lowe and manager Craig Tarry on February 13, 2016.

His family set up the River Reeves Foundation to help young people realise their dreams as actors, writers, artists, directors and musicians.

Some 58 pupils from Ormiston Bolingbroke Academy (OBA) in Runcorn did the 5k parkrun in Phoenix Park in Castlefields to earn their Viola Beach memorial medal.

The students raised more than £345.

Sharon Dunne, a teacher from OBA, said: "Next year I am going to look at a way of incorporating running in schools to improve mental health in young children.

"This will be part of our future in my projects and leads on from the news that doctors on their prescribing parkrun as an alternative to medication to deal with mental health issues."

The foundation is currently looking for runners to pound the streets of Warrington as part of the English Half Marathon.
