A MAINS leak has left some Widnes residents with low water supplies today (Saturday).

Shorlty after 4.30am, United Utilities said a leak on Hough Green Road had been identified and engineers were sent to the site.

Repair works began shortly after 6.30am.

Water from another pipe elsewhere has been moved into the area to help get residents' taps flowing but homes may be hit with low pressure.

Repair works have now been completed, United Utilities confirmed at 2.20pm this afternoon, saying the "complex nature" of the works meant they had to take so long.

They said residents may experience low pressure for a couple more hours and some discolouring in their supply.

A statement said: "Our team of engineers has finished repairing the leaking pipe and the water should start to flow normally again soon.

"However it may take up to two hours for the water pressure to return to normal levels. We’re sorry if this has affected you and thank you for your patience.

"Because there’s been some disturbance to the pipes in your area you may notice the water is a little cloudy or discoloured, please check our Discoloured Water page for more information."
