TWO men in white coats have been calling door to door selling fish from a white van in Runcorn, prompting a warning from Halton Council.

It is suspected the fish is being sold at over-inflated prices.

Halton Cllr Dave Cargill, board member for Trading Standards, said: "Our advice is not to deal with traders on your doorstep.

"If you do answer the door, our advice is to explain that you don't buy from doorstep callers and to shut the door.

Free no cold calling cards and stickers are available from any Halton Direct Link office.

Anyone who has bought fish from these sellers are urged to report it to the Citizens Advice consumer helpline on 03454 04 05 06.

Residents who fear they may have been caughby a fraud can contact the council's specialist officers on 0151 511 8785 or 0151 511 8775, who are already working with people in Halton who have lost thousands of pounds to scams.
