INTREPID cyclists rode 53 miles visiting flagship football stadiums and raised a staggering £2,500 for Cancer Research UK.

A team of 18 players and coaches from St Michael's DHFC football team in Widnes set off from the Etihad Stadium, home of Manchester City FC.

The riders then headed for Old Trafford, the home of Manchester United, followed by Goodison Park, where Everton play and finally finished at Anfield, where Liverpool is based.

Organiser Mark Stanton said: "Our group age ranged from 16 to 45 and everyone finished the event in under six hours.

"As a football club we look to do a charity event every year."

A safety vehicle was kindly provided by Pauline Derbyshire and Toni Kelshaw.
