A FUN-FILLED charity day has been held to celebrate the 10th anniversary of Widnes Urgent Care Centre and the 70th birthday of the NHS.

Staff raised £670 for the Cathie Stankevitch Foundation.

Former Widnes Vikings rugby star John Stankevitch founded the charity to celebrate the life of his late mum Cathie, 54, who was killed in a tragic road accident after being knocked down by an out of control van.

The charity supports disadvantaged children, young people and adults.

John and Widnes Vikings players Hep Cahill and Olly Ashall-Bott joined staff at the health care resourced centre on Caldwell Road yesterday for the celebrations.

Organiser Claire Krenz, from Widnes Urgent Care Centre, said: "We chose this local charity because we wanted to give something back to our local community.

"We had a lovely day celebrating both birthdays and were thrilled that John and the Widnes Viking players were able to join us."

The 0-19 choir sang a selection of songs and everyone enjoyed freshly baked cakes.

Staff would like to say a special thanks to McDougall's Pharmacy, DW Sport, Moorfield Nursery, Kids Planet Day Nursery, Newtown, Beeches and Upton Rocks surgeries, Renova CHP, Widnes Vikings, Cakes by Kerry and all the local businesses who donated raffle prizes.
