PARAMEDICS across the North West will stage a two-hour walk-out on Monday in a row over pay.

Members of the GMB union working for North West Ambulance Service say they have waited for the outcome of a job re-evaluation for more than 12 years.

GMB official Mike Buoey said: "GMB's North West paramedics are taking this step reluctantly as a last resort, but they've been backed into a corner.

"They have waited patiently for many years while their job was re-evaluated for the years between 2005 to 2016.

"NWAS asked what they wanted. We told them – an independent investigation into what has happened during the past 13 years and an external evaluation of the job role."

The workers will strike for two hours at the start of their shift.

Ahead of the ballot in May, Michael Forrest, director of organisational development for the North West Ambulance Service, said: “The evaluation of the paramedic role is arranged by an external body on behalf of the trust and our trade unions.

“We are disappointed that GMB has chosen to take this action whilst a process is still ongoing.

“Due to the complexity of the process, there have been some delays whilst clarification has been sought by both sides.

“The trust is committed to resolving the matter in partnership with all our trade unions. Talks are currently taking place and will continue until a resolution has been agreed.”
