RECENTLY Halton Borough Council (HBC) increased the price of a Halton Hopper bus ticket by a staggering £9.41 per month.

Previously a ticket was £61 per calendar month which came to £732 a year.

What HBC did was to increase the cost of the Hopper from £61 to £65 per ticket then; by using a clever bit of trickery reduced the duration of the ticket to 28 days, which in effect means that travellers now have to buy 13 Hoppers a year instead of 12. (13 x 28 = 364 days)

In total that is 12 x £4 increase (£48) plus £65 extra ticket which equals £113 extra a year. Divided by 12 months is a staggering £9.41 a month increase.

Can someone at Halton Council explain why working people in the borough have been hit so hard?
