HALTON Council received more than £27,000 in fines for dog fouling and littering during the past year.
Latest figures show that the local authority received £27,575 from issuing 431 litter fines and 25 dog fouling fines between April 1, 2017 and 20 March 20, 2018.
A further 128 offenders were prosecuted for not paying the fine.
This reflects a significant decrease in the fines collected in previous years.
For the financial year 2016-2017 the council recorded 1,150 litter offences and 56 dog fouling offences, making a total of £71,540 in penalty charges.
The worst year on record for litter offending was 2014-2015 when the council received £106,955 in payments for 1,636 littering offences and 45 dog muck offences.
Since then, the fines issued and revenue collected has decreased year on year.
Overall, the council have received £319,885 for 4,933 litter and 163 dog fouling fines between April 2013 and March 2018.
