A CHARITY football match is being held to celebrate the life of a Runcorn player.

Jay Quinn, 24, died suddenly in March.

Halton Villa JFC will be playing against Halton Royal British Legion JFC at Runcorn Boys Club on Boston Avenue at 2.30pm on Bank Holiday Monday May 28.

The event aims to raise awareness and funds for the mental health charity Mind and raise money for the Jamie Quinn Memorial Fund.

Ellis Evison, 24, from Brookvale, who went to Palacefields Primary School with Jay and used to play football with him on Beechwood is organising the event.

Graduate environmental consultant Ellis said: "I wanted to do something to help. The day is a celebration of Jay's life. Alongside the football match we will have a face painter, caricature artist and sweet stall for families and children.

"After the match fundraising will continue at the Legion. We will have a DJ and raffle with more than 30 prizes including signed Liverpool and Everton football shirts."

Former Heath pupil Jay played football for Halton Royal British Legion.

Ellis added: "Jay, throughout his 24 years, made a lasting impression on so many people. This is clear by the overwhelming support of the charity event.

"Let's raise as much as we can in his memory and keep on remembering that cheeky smile of his."

He said Jay's family has welcomed the memorial event and celebration.

Entrance to the football match is £1 for adults and free for children.
