DETECTIVES investigating an arson attack on a house in Runcorn are appealing for witnesses to come forward.

Vandals set fire to the front door of a terrace house on Canon Street shortly before 10pm last night.

Police officers are particularly keen to speak to a man, believed to be aged in his 60s, who alerted people to the fire.

Detective Constable Lucy Kennedy, of Runcorn CID, said: “Thankfully no one was inside the house at the time of the attack.

"At this stage we’re currently following a number of lines of enquiry and as part of our investigation we’re really keen to speak to a man who alerted residents nearby to the fire.

“If this is you please come forward as you may be able to help us find those responsible. I would also urge anyone who may have any information to report it to us on 101.”
