SEVEN people, including a man from Widnes, have been arrested on suspicion of various offences following an attempted burglary in Toxteth and a pursuit of a car which ended in Litherland in the early hours of this morning.

At around 2.15am, an occupant of a flat in Croxteth Road, Toxteth reported men breaking in.

Patrols attended and detained two men nearby.

A 22-year-old man from Kirkby and a 30-year-old man from Toxteth were arrested on suspicion of burglary and have been taken to a police station for questioning.

Shortly afterwards, officers still at the scene sighted a Ford Mondeo with five men on board driving into Greenheys Drive, before making off at speed upon seeing police.

Details were circulated to patrols and following a prolonged pursuit from Upper Parliament Street to Kirkstone Road West in Litherland, supported by NPAS, the car was stopped and five men were arrested.

The suspected driver, a 28-year-old man from Widnes, was arrested on suspicion of attempted burglary, dangerous driving, fail to stop and no insurance.

A 19-year-old of no fixed abode, a 21-year-old man, a 17-year-old boy and a 16-year-old boy, all from Litherland, were arrested on suspicion of attempted burglary. All five have been taken to police stations for questioning.

Detective Inspector Paul Speight said: “We will continue to proactively target those who attempt to commit burglary offences in Merseyside, and do everything in our power to safely bring pursuits to a conclusion.

“Our investigations are ongoing and any footage from within the vehicle, or from anyone who witnessed this incident and has dash-cam or home CCTV, may be most useful in evidence, so please come forward to us as soon as possible.”

Merseyside Police today charged 28-year-old Daniel Fair from Widnes with dangerous driving, driving whilst disqualified and driving without insurance after a pursuit yesterday.
