POLICE confirmed today that they are treating the fire which gutted a derelict Widnes pub as suspected arson.
Detectives have made a renewed appeal for information after the former Sporting Ford on Hough Green Road was destroyed in a fierce blaze which started at around 8.30pm on Friday night.
Firefighters spent more than 12 hours tackling the fire at the single storey building which was well alight when crews arrived.
A police spokesman said: "Initial indications suggest that the fire was started deliberately."
