RUNCORN schoolchildren were challenged to create their own nest boxes.
Pupils at St Mary's CE Primary School in Castlefields teamed up to take part.
Head teacher Rachel Tainsh said: "The eco committee decided to run a project to build 30 nest boxes.
"They provided the packs of wood, screws and a hinge and the rest was down to creativity and imagination.
"The purpose was to help families think about our garden birds and how to help them with spring approaching.
"Each box was absolutely beautiful."
The winner was Luke Shaw but the entries were so good that everyone who decorated a box received a prize.
