A WIDNES man has been charged with dangerous driving following an incident in the early hours of Monday morning.

Merseyside Police officers began pursuing 35-year-old Paul Wright of Avon, Widnes after his Vauxhall van failed to stop on Rice Lane at around 2.30am on February 26.

During the pursuit, the van was driven the wrong way along various dual carriageways including the M62 motorway.

A short time later, tactical contact was used by officers to bring the pursuit to a conclusion near junction 2 of the M57 and the driver was arrested.

Five officers received minor injuries during the incident.

Wright pleaded guilty to dangerous driving and has been remanded in custody.

He is due to be sentenced at Liverpool Crown Court on Tuesday, March 27.
