SMOKE bombs were set off in the stadium concourse during last night's derby clash between Widnes Vikings and Warrington Wolves.

Two flares were set off in the away end concourse at half time of Warrington's 10-18 win at the Halton Stadium, filling the area with smoke.

A further smoke bomb was set off in the North Stand after the Wire's second half try, while another was thrown onto the stadium's artificial pitch from the West Stand after the match.

Warrington Wolves bosses have condemned the actions of the ‘small minority’ of spectators and say they intend to root out the culprits.

Chief executive Karl Fitzpatrick said: “Our club will not tolerate this behaviour – we are working with Widnes to identify the culprits, such acts are not welcome at any Rugby League stadium.

"We will not allow a small minority to overshadow the fantastic true supporters we have at Warrington Wolves.”
