A TEENAGE trampolinist is jumping for joy after winning a gold medal in her first international competition.

Ella Parry, 14, from Runcorn, romped to glory competing against top athletes from across Europe in the Cascais Beach Cup 2018 in Portugal on Tuesday, winning gold in the junior synchro competition.

The young athlete is no stranger to success after winning two gold medals in the North West Championship in Sheffield in August 2017.

In the same competition Ella was hailed north west champion in ladies synchro and under 15 double mini trampoline.

Ella performed in the synchronised competition in Portugal with fellow trampolinist 14-year-old Becky Patton.

Proud dad Steve, from Sandymoor, said: “She has done really well but takes it all in her stride, it doesn’t phase her.”

The former Daresbury Primary School pupil only started trampolining five years ago.

She began training at the the Focus Institute of Gymnastics on St Michael’s Industrial Estate in Widnes which has 350 members and is works in partnership with Halton Sports Development.

Ella moved to Liverpool Gymnastics and Trampoline Academy in 2016 and went on to compete in regional and national competitions.

The teenager achieved bronze in the British 13-14-year-old girls competition in Liverpool in October last year.

“She is very very dedicated,” said Steve. “She trains five days a week.

“She goes to Bridgewater High School in Warrington and they allow her one day off a week to go training.

“Her results at school are very good so her teachers are pleased with her.”

Ella is now preparing to compete in the North West and British Championships later this year as well as more international events.

Steve added: “Ella is a bit of a live wire. She enjoys the training and friendship. She has made some really good friends.”
