A HOUSE builder has helped to convert the former St Marie’s Catholic church hall in Widnes into a foodbank centre.

Taylor Wimpey North West has donated £500 to Widnes Foodbank after the charity gained the most points in its community campaign.

The foodbank provides emergency supplies to people facing crisis thanks to volunteers and the generosity of the community.

Shelia Smith, treasurer of Widnes Foodbank, said: “We are over the moon to receive such a generous donation from the homebuilder.

“The money will be put to great use by helping us to redecorate our Crossing Point foodbank centre on Lugsdale Road.

“The support we have received will make a significant difference to the work that we do.”

Stuart Craig, head of sales for Taylor Wimpey North West, said: “Widnes Foodbank provides an invaluable service to the people that it supports and we are only too pleased to be able to help however we can.

“We are committed to creating longstanding communities within our developments to ensure local organisations and charities can continue to thrive.”
