A MAN has been attacked by a gang with a police baton in Runcorn.

The 42-year-old had been shopping at the Spar store off Lapwing Grove in Palacefields when he was approached by three men.

The trio assaulted him and one is believed to have hit him with an old style police baton.

The victim sustained cuts and bruising to his head and received medical treatment.

The first suspect is described as a white man, late teens to early 20s, approximately 5ft 10oms tall, of average build with long shoulder length mousy brown hair.

He had a local accent and was wearing a long dark coat, dark trousers and was carrying a black old style police baton.

The second man was white, approximately 5ft 8ins tall, late teens or early 20s, of average build with short blonde/light brown cropped hair and a local accent.

The third suspect is described as early teens with short blonde hair.

Police Constable Chris Roberts said: “At the current time this appears to be an isolated incident and we are committed to doing all that we can to trace the people responsible.

“Enquiries in relation to the incident are ongoing and I’m keen to hear from anyone who believes they have any information which could assist the investigation.”

The attack happened between 5pm and 7pm on Saturday, December 20, last year but was only reported to police on January 15.
