A DRIVER was ambushed at knifepoint in Runcorn and had his car stolen by a gang of men in a terrifying ordeal.

The 51-year-old was approached by a group of four or five men as he got into a black Ford Focus at Meadow Row car park in Castlefields.

The robbers dragged the victim out of the car, held a knife to his throat and assaulted him, leaving him with facial injuries.

The gang, all wearing dark clothing with their faces covered, then fled in the car towards Halton Brow.

The robbery happened between 8.30pm and 8.45pm on Monday, January 15.

Detectives are urging anyone who witnessed the robbery or has any information that may assist the investigation to come forward.

Police Constable Dan Gough said: “Thankfully this type of incident is rare but the victim has been left extremely shaken and we are determined to catch those responsible.

“I am appealing to anyone who witnessed the robbery or saw a gang of men near Meadow Row car park around the time it took place to please get in touch.

“I would also like to hear from anyone who saw a black Ford Focus being driven in the area or thinks they may have information about the stolen car.”
