A WIDNES teenager is embarking on a new career with house builder Miller Homes.

Harry Ellis is training to become a joiner at the Fairfield Gardens development on Peel House Lane.

The 17-year-old former Saints Peter and Paul Catholic College pupil has been recruited as an apprentice.

The company has pledged to provide vital training, experience and employment opportunities for residents living in their development site areas.

Miller Homes has announced plans to bring 345 new homes to the north west in 2018, bringing much needed high-quality houses and jobs to the region.

Fred Swinburne, production director for Miller Homes north west, said: “As we look to build more of our quality, award-winning houses, it’s important to ensure that we’re providing not just homes to the local area, but jobs too.

“Harry has proved himself to be a dedicated and hard-working addition to the team and has a bright future in the construction industry ahead of him.”

After months of training through technical on site work combined with academic study at college, Harry will complete the scheme with recognised qualifications.

He will gain a wealth of experience to boost his employment opportunities for the future as well as a potential job offer from Miller Homes.

The success of Miller’s training schemes is evidenced through some of the company’s top site managers who started their careers as trainees and have gone on to win industry leading awards.

Nine site managers saw their commitment to building new homes to the highest quality recognised in last year’s Pride in the Job Awards.

Andy Halladay, who won the National House Building Council Seal of Excellence Award in 2017, said: “It is my duty to deliver high quality houses that customers can call home in a safe and responsible manner. To be recognised nationally for achieving this is a great honour.”
