AN awards evening has been held to celebrate the success of former Cronton Sixth Form College A-level students.

Guests included the mayor and mayoress of Halton Cllrs Alan and John Lowe, West End actress and patron for the Centre of Excellence for Performing Arts Zoe Curlett and special friend of the college Rona Collins.

Theatre, media and English literature student Ritchie Redmond took home the John Collins Award for Outstanding Contribution to the College Community.

Insightful and intelligent, Ritchie, from Runcorn, became an ambassador, offering sincere advice and guidance to peers and always on hand to help out at extra-curricular events.

He is now studying music and musical theatre at the University of Chichester.

Biology, Chemistry and Psychology student Muniza Waseem was named Student of the Year

Muniza helped to raise £1,500 for Macmillan Cancer Support through the college Medical Society.

Her determination and motivation to become a dentistry student has been outstanding and she was voted Volunteer of the Year’by Liverpool Women’s Hospital for the way she interacted with patients and visitors. Muniza is now studying Dentistry at Plymouth University.

Actress and college patron Zoe Curlett gave an inspirational talk about her career.

Singer Zoe, from Widnes, played the female lead in Phantom of the Opera and Les Misérables in the West End.

Leeann Bellfield, head of Cronton Sixth Form, said, “We were delighted to welcome back so many of our former students who have now gone on to study at top universities across the country.

“The class of 2017 produced many outstanding students who performed exceptionally well, achieving a 99.4 per cent A-Level pass rate and 81 per cent high grades.

“I would like to wish all of the students the very best of luck for the future.”
