WONDERING what to do with all your extra festive rubbish?

Packaging from presents and food waste leaves many families struggling to cope with bulging bins as collections are delayed over the holiday period.

Halton’s two waste recycling centres are open every day except New Year’s Day from 8am to 6pm.

There is one in Picow Farm Road, Runcorn, and another on Johnsons Lane in Widnes.

Christmas trees can be recycled free of charge at both sites.

The centres are run by Veolia Environmental Services on behalf of Halton Council.

To avoid queues, residents are advised to vary the times that they visit the sites.

Weekends are always busy around the middle of the day.

The council reminds householders delivering household waste in commercial type vehicles or large trailers that they will not be allowed access without a relevant permit.

Permits are available free from one of Halton’s One Stop Shops.

Bin collections have been altered to accommodate the bank holidays and many may be emptied on a different day of the week over the next fortnight.

To check the date of your next home bin collection visit Halton Council’s website 3.halton.gov.uk, click on ‘bins and recycling’ and enter your address in an online timetable.

Householders are reminded to put out their bins before 7am on the morning of the collection.
