AN armed robber threatened staff at a shop in Widnes.

A man brandishing a wheel brace burst into a convenience store and off licence on Ditchfield Road near the junction of Liverpool Road shortly before 8pm last night.

The villain threatened a cashier, demanding the till was opened.

The suspect then stole a quantity of cash from the till before fleeing the store through the main entrance.

The store is opposite Hough Green Social Club.

The suspect was wearing a black hooded jacket and black trousers. After leaving the store it is believed that he may have got into a Mercedes car which was waiting outside.

Detective Constable Tina Jackson said: “Thankfully the victim in the cases was not injured. However she has been left shaken as a result of her ordeal.

“We are currently following a number of lines of enquiry in relation to the incident and as part of our investigation I’m keen to hear from anyone who trusts that they may have any information which could assist our investigation.

“I’m also keen to hear from anyone who was in the area at the time of the incident and believes that they may have witnessed the offender fleeing the scene, possibly in a Mercedes car.”
