A NEW digital McDonald’s drive through restaurant has opened in Widnes.

The fastfood giant started serving customers yesterday at the new eatery beside Silver Blades ice rink and the Reel Cinema.

The development has created 85 full and part time jobs.

The mayor and mayoress of Halton Cllrs Alan and Joan Lowe cut a ribbon to officially open the restaurant on Bowers Retail Park.

The single storey development has been built is on the site of the former Arc car wash on Earle Road beside B&M.

Digital technology has been installed so customers can use self-order kiosks to browse the menu, look at nutritional information about the food and personalise their meals.

Table service is also available so families with children, bags and buggies don’t have to struggle carrying food.

Stefanie Jones, business manager of the new restaurant, said: “I am thrilled that McDonald’s is opening a restaurant in Bowers Retail Park and am looking forward to getting to know our new local customers.

“We’re pleased to be able to bring an employment boost to the area and it’s great we’ll be widening our team.

“I look forward to hearing what both of our new customers and crew think of the digital restaurant.”

The company already has two restaurants in Widnes on Moor Lane and inside the Asda store on Widnes Road.
