THE next bus drivers' strike has been called off as union members are set to consider a new pay deal offer from Arriva.

The strike scheduled for tomorrow, Tuesday, has been cancelled after Arriva brought a two-year pay agreement to the table during talks on Friday.

Unions will take the offer to a ballot on Monday and Tuesday.

Drivers have held several strike days over recent weeks, with more planned actions in the lead-up to Christmas.

A strike scheduled for last Thursday had been called off after fresh talks with unions were agreed to.

Following Friday's talks with Unite and GMB, Phil Stone, managing director of Arriva North West Bus said: “Arriva North West has today tabled a new two year pay agreement with the unions, which the unions will now take to a ballot next Monday and Tuesday.

"We are pleased that the unions have agreed to cancel strike action on Tuesday, December 12.

“We believe our latest offer guaranteeing a two year pay rise represents a fair and decent deal for our drivers and hope the pay offer is accepted by our staff and we can return to delivering the best possible service to our passengers and the local economy.”

As it stands, more planned strikes have been set for Wednesday, December 13; Thursday, December 14; Wednesday, December 20; Thursday, December 21; Friday, December 22 and Saturday, December 23.

The union says they will still go ahead if the pay dispute is not resolved.
