A RECORD number of people paid tribute to Halton’s war heroes on Sunday.
Big crowds attended Remembrance services at Remembrance Day services in Widnes and Runcorn.
An estimated 2,000 gathered in Victoria Park, Widnes, in the morning.
The Mercian regiment joined civic dignitaries, veterans, air, army and sea cadets, organisations, community groups and schoolchildren to lay wreaths.
Janet Doran said: “We attend every year and today was the biggest turn out we have seen.
“So proud to be part of this show of respect for our fallen and everyone who served for our Queen and country.”
Hundreds more paid their respects at the Cenotaph on Greenway Road, Runcorn, in the afternoon.
Runcorn Veterans Association laid wreaths at a ceremony on Sunday morning.
