AN elderly man has been left shaken after a gang of men tried to rob him at knifepoint.

The 71-year-old victim was walking along Main Street in Halton Village, Runcorn when youths threatened him with a weapon.

DC David Wood said: “The gentleman didn’t suffer any serious injury but was shaken by the incident.

“It’s believed that a motorist may have startled the robbers when they turned off Main Street onto Pump Lane and illuminated the offenders with their car headlights.

“The men then ran off down the alleyway which leads to St Mary’s School on the Castlefield’s estate. “I am particularly keen to speak with the driver who may have vital information that could help with my enquiries.”

The incident happened at 5.20pm on Monday.

The first man is described as white,around 5ft 10ins tall and of slim build. He spoke with a Runcorn accent.

A second man, who was in possession of a knife is described as white, 5ft 8ins to 5ft 9ins tall, and of heavy or build.

He was of similar age and also spoke with a Runcorn accent.

The third man is described as white, of skinny build with longer dark hair.

All three were around 20 years old.
