A FORMER junior world triple jump champion and current British champion has visited Moorfield primary School.

Ben Williams spoke to pupils about his career and how determination and perseverance have helped him.

He spent four years in America, following his world junior success, where he was the six times All American champion.

After his return to the UK, he represented Team GB at the European championships, where he was the silver medallist. He has been chosen to represent Team England at next year’s Commonwealth Games in Australia.

All the pupils, who were sponsored by friends and family did fitness circuits with Ben.

He was put through his paces by 10-year-old pupil Hannah Martin, who challenged Ben to a standing start triple jump!

Hannah, who represented the school at the schools’ indoor athletics competition, impressed Ben with her skill at the event.

Head teacher Kathryn Heyes said: “Ben is a perfect example of what hard work and dedication can achieve.

“We know that his visit will help to inspire our children to live healthy lives, follow their dreams and reach their goals.”
