THOUSANDS of spectators are expected to watch a free fireworks display beside the Silver Jubilee bridge on Sunday evening.

Halton Council’s 21st annual show takes off from the gantry wall between the Manchester Ship Canal and the River Mersey at 7.30pm.

The display will be synchronised to movie themes.

Music will be played from 6pm at viewing areas on Mersey Road in Runcorn and Victoria Promenade in West Bank in Widnes.

Spectators can also watch the fireworks from The Brindley café terrace.

Sleeping Beauty panto star Rebecca Lake will meet visitors at the theatre.

Halton Cllr Eddie Jones, board member for events, said: "Halton Council’s annual firework display is a great opportunity for the entire borough to come together.

"It will be great to see so many people from our two towns and beyond coming out to enjoy this great family event.

"It also provides a safe organised environment for people to enjoy the evening.”

Parking restrictions will be in place near both viewing areas.

Roads in West Bank, Widnes, will be closed from 5.30pm to 9pm.

Access will be available to residents only on production of ID to marshalls at junctions.

High Street, Bridge Street, King Street, Public Hall Street and Church Street in Runcorn will also be closed during the same period. Access will be managed by the police.

The footpath crossing Silver Jubilee bridge will also be closed.
