A NEW junior safety officer scheme has been created for Halton Primary Schools.
Almost 100 pupils attended a launch event.
Farnworth Primary School pupils Jasmine Barker, Rebecca Durrance, Neive Pierce, all aged 11, received the winner’s shield.
The girls described what they enjoyed about the role.
Halton Cllr Stan Hill, board member for transportation, said: “The aim of the scheme is to increase safety awareness amongst pupils and encourage them to accept responsibility for keeping each other safe.
“Messages promoted include, personal safety, fire safety, road safety, community safety and water safety.
“The children read safety messages out in assembly and run competitions throughout the year to remind pupils of the information.”
The scheme is run by Halton Council’s road safety team with Cheshire Police and Cheshire Fire and Rescue Service
