VISITORS were given free guided bus trips across the Mersey Gateway Bridge to celebrate the route opening to the public.
Passengers hopped on buses running between The Brindley and Select Security Stadium for a tour of the new network.
Fairground rides, circus workshops and children’s activities were organised at each end of the route.
Cllr Rob Polhill, leader of Halton Borough Council, said: “This was a day of celebrations and it was great to see everyone having a good time at The Brindley at the stadium.
“The bus trips were a huge success and my thanks go to Arriva and their drivers on the day, who were brilliant.
“It was a great opportunity for people who haven’t crossed the bridge yet to see it in all its glory, and for drivers to see it from a different perspective.”
Mersey Gateway souvenirs including t-shirts, mugs and keyrings were also on sale with all profits going to charities Halton Speak Out and HEARTS (Halton Entertainment Arts Regional Theatre School).
