A WIDNES schoolboy has launched a campaign to help half a million children with life-changing genetic disorders.

Dylan Kermode has inspired Fairfield Primary School to support Jeans for Genes Day tomorrow, Friday, and raise money to help youngsters cope with various conditions.

The 10-year-old, from Halton View, who has set up a gofunding page, said: “I’ve been doing homework on genetic disorders and was reading stories about how it makes childrens’ lives difficult.

“I want to raise money for the children to make them smile and do something fun.

“I’ve spoken to my teacher who thinks it’s a brilliant idea and I’ve asked my head teacher if we can do it in school.”

Head teacher Vicky Pierce has agreed to support his efforts and invited him to talk at a school assembly.

Dylan’s mum Ashleigh, 27, said: “I couldn’t be more proud of him.

“He was reading all about genetic disorders in his homework and said he would like to do something to help.

“The head teacher asked him to stand up in front of the whole school and tell pupils about his idea.

“He said he just wanted to make other kids smile.

“His sister Ellie, who is six ran out of school with a letter that is being sent to all the parents.

“Dylan has his own little style. I think he’s amazing.”

Dylan, who has already raised £105.

Dylan has already raised almost £150.

Fairfield Primary School head teacher Vicky Pierce said: “We are really proud of the way in which our children and families think of others and help others.

“Our children have been learning all about ‘random acts of kindness’. They have truly put this into action by putting forward ideas of how to help others and what we can do as a school.

“Dylan presented his idea about raising awareness and monies through the charity ‘Jeans for Genes’ and all of the children wholeheartedly supported this fundraising day.

“We are very grateful to the kind donations of our whole school community.”

Pupils raised was £364.10 which will be shared between Jeans for Genes and Children with Cancer UK.

Funds raised for Jeans for Genes will provide provide grants for day-to-day support, equipment, nursing and patient support services and events which bring together affected children and their families.
