A POLICE community support officer was injured after being knocked off her bike in Runcorn by a reckless off-road biker.

The PCSO sustained minor injuries but police say the incident could have been more serious.

The officer was cycling along Stockham Lane in Brookvale at around 12.30pm on Thursday, September 14 when she came across a teenager on an off-road scrambler bike riding anti-socially.

The teenager deliberately rode towards the PCSO.

As a result of trying to avoid colliding with the bike, she fell off of her bicycle causing minor injuries. The teenager then drove off from the scene.

Chief Inspector Sarah Heath said: “Fortunately the PCSO was not seriously injured as a result of this incident, but it could have been a lot worse.

“This could have been an innocent member of the public going about their daily business and quite frankly this behaviour is just unacceptable.

“The issue of scrambler bikes is an issue which really matters to the people of Runcorn.

“Information we receive from the public is vital and I would encourage anyone who has any information about this incident to come forward.

“We will continue to act upon any information that is passed on and we will use this information to support any seizures and prosecutions of these types of bikes where necessary.

“We are aware that this particular area of Runcorn has seen an increase in people riding scrambler bikes anti-socially and we are doing all we can to tackle the issue but we do need more information from the public to help us progress our enquires.

“The information that can prove really valuable to our investigations is detailed descriptions of any bikes and riders that are causing a nuisance.

“Also any information in relation to where these bikes are being stored and also key factors regarding the rider such as hair colour and description, what they are wearing and potential names.”

Anyone with information is should call Cheshire police on 101 quoting incident number 356 of 14 September or Crimestoppers, anonymously, on 0800 555 111.
