MORE than 450 students at Cronton Sixth Form College have celebrated spectacular results.

Sixth formers achieved a 99.2 per cent pass and 81 per cent high grades.

A record number of students have been accepted at prestigious universities while many others embark on new careers with employers.

More then 25 A level subjects boasted an impressive 100 per cenet pass rate and high grades have increased at the college for the sixth year running.

Mary Murphy, college principal said: “We are thrilled with the exceptional A level and vocational results our students have achieved again this year, especially the number who have achieved high grades.

“It was wonderful to be able to celebrate today with staff and proud teachers who have all worked so hard to achieve these spectacular results. We wish all of our students the best of luck as they embark on their next steps.”

Vocational students achieved a pass rate of 100 per cent with 75 per cent of students gaining triple distinctions (equivalent to 3 As at A level) and 48 per cent achieving triple distinction star grades (equivalent to 3 A* grades at A level).

Many students are now progressing on to some of the country’s top universities including York, Leeds, Bristol, Nottingham, Exeter, Liverpool and Manchester.

Laura Farrell, a former Wade Deacon pupil, who gained three As in history, English language and English literature and an A* in an extended project is off to York to read English.

Former Wade Deacon pupil Alistair Ward gained three As in economics, history and English literature and will be studying history at York.

Will Ellison, a former pupil at St Chad’s Catholic and Church of England High School, who achieved As in further maths and physics and A* in maths is studying maths in Liverpool.

Vanya Barzilova, who also attended St Chad’s, gained A* in psychology, A in biology and B in chemistry is going to Liverpool to read medicine and surgery.

Former Grange pupil Rachel Whitehead who achieved A* in history, A in English language and B in English literature is studying English in Liverpool.
