FIREFIGHTERS are tackling a blaze at a scrapyard on Dennis Lane in Widnes.
Four crews from Widnes, Penketh, Runcorn and Warrington fire stations arrived on the scene at around 9.30pm after reports of smoke rising from the site.
They used main jets to tackle the flames and a crane was used to move scrap metal from the area so firefighters could reach the source of the blaze.
Digging continued at the site through the early hours of the morning to fight the fire and ground monitors were used to locate spots of heat and direct water.
At 7.30am work began at the site with machinery used to move more metal.
Firefighters remain on the scene.
