A 12-YEAR-OLD boy was targeted in an attempted robbery in Widnes.

Investigations are ongoing after a man tried to the steal the bike of a young boy on July 22 at 6pm.

The 12-year-old was cycling along the path under the bridge on Dundalk Road but he had to move out of the way of a man who jumped out of a bush.

The young boy fell to the floor and the man demanded he hand over the bike.

The man tried to pull the bike from the boy but he was unsuccessful.

A dog walker shouted over to the man which caused him to run away empty-handed.

The man was wearing a black hooded top which was pulled tightly hiding his face.

DC Tracey Short said: “If it wasn’t for the actions of the dog walker, it is highly likely the offender would have stolen this boy’s bike.

“I would strongly urge the dog walker to come forward and speak to us as they could have information which could help us with our enquiries and trace this offender.”
