CHILDREN learnt about the importance of bread at a sandwich making workshop.

Gill Davenport from Warburtons visited The Brow Community School as part of the bakery’s innovative school visitor programme.

Last year, the project taught 34,451 children the importance of a balanced diet, hygiene and safety, food waste, and basic food preparation.

Gill Davenport, from Warburtons’ Runcorn site, said: “The programme gives children a chance to learn about the importance of healthy eating by giving them the right tools and information to make informed decisions about their health and wellbeing.

“The children have been so excited and enthusiastic to take part in the activities.”

Lindsay Cottam, class teacher as The Brow, said: “The children really enjoyed the session especially the practical elements of making sandwiches.

“It was really informative and the children gained new skills and understanding of the importance of healthy eating and basic food preparation.”
