SPECIAL celebrations will be held in Runcorn on Saturday at the 25th parkrun in Phoenix Park.

More than 800 people have walked, jogged or run the free timed 5k course since it was launched in January.

Cakes, sweets and goodies will be available as organisers mark the occasion.

Weaver Vale MP Mike Amesbury will be starting this week’s run at the park on Castlefields Avenue North.

The weekly event starts at 9am and is organised by volunteers and supported by running clubs, Run Sandymoor and The Plodders. Pacers will be provided.

Runner Mike Metcalfe said: “We will be announcing our defibrillator fund. I will be running in fancy dress which is how I raised £700 towards this appeal.”

Members of the public have donated £100.

Anyone can take part in a parkrun and the Phoenix team encourages everyone to come along and have a go.

Participants are asked to register before their first ever parkrun at www.parkrun.org.uk/register.
