I WAS appalled to read about the Runcorn paedophile Geoffrey Mao who was jailed for 10 years for sexually abusing a girl and boy (Runcorn and Widnes World, June 28).

This was a historic case dating back 30 years and must have taken a lot of courage for the victims to come forward.

This perpetrator will only serve five years.

This is not long enough for the ordeal he put these children through and the effect it will have had on their lives.

It’s about time sentences matched the crimes that have been committed.

The judge said it will be up to the parole board to decide when it is safe to release him.

How does anyone know if and when this monster could strike again?
