THERE was a record medals haul for martial arts students who attend Matt Fiddes classes in Great Sankey.

Forty medals were won when the team, who train at Barrowhall Primary School on Thursdays and Sundays, took part in the annual Matt Fiddes Martial Arts Northern Championships held in Penrith.

Medal winners were: Ella James (two gold), Nathan Heywood (two gold), Katie Tinnion (two gold), Navneeth Vishwanath (one gold and one silver), Ella Coleman (one gold and one bronze), Jack Ryder (one gold and one bronze), Cath Baguley (one gold and one silver), Cody Rutter (one gold, one silver and one bronze), Zac Rutter (one bronze), Rachel Williams (one gold and one bronze), George Cain Morris (one gold), Megan Banner (two bronze), Stuart Smith (one silver), Jake Smith (one bronze), Jacob Naidu (one bronze), Daniel Roach (two silver), Anna Mai Larkin (three silver), Elliot Berry (one silver), Ethan Berry (one silver), Joshua McArthy Booth (one silver and two bronze), Jasmin Dubique (one silver and one bronze), Luke Baguley (one silver), Ankita Raju (one bronze), with Louis James, Jack Reeves, Otto Dunn, Zak Dubique, Max Baguley and Charlotte Banner also competing.

Class leader Steve James said: “I am so proud of everyone who competed. We have worked so hard over the past two months to give the children the confidence to compete on such a big scale.”
