A RETIRED Widnes head teacher with a passion for excellence has been recognised in the Queen’s Birthday Honours list.

Angela Paget has been awarded the OBE for services to education.

Mrs Paget served St Bede’s Catholic Junior School for almost 33 years, 24 as head teacher.

A spokesman for the school said: “She dedicated herself, heart and soul, to the very spirit of the school and embodied the school’s mission, life in all its fullness, throughout her career.

“Her passion for excellence was at the forefront of her work and she helped many children to reach their potential, something she aptly named their personal best.

“Teaching was Mrs. Paget’s calling. She had the welfare and educational needs of almost four decades of children at heart and embraced this vocation with sincerity.”

Mrs Paget, from Prescot, dedicated her career to the education of her pupils.

Teachers say her spirit of generosity was evident every day.

She encouraged everyone, children and staff, to do their very best and strive for individual excellence.

Former pupils and parents have congratulated her on social media.

Sue Kilgannon said: “Well done Mrs Paget, a great headmistress.”

Sarah Coogan added: “Very well deserved for an amazing lady.”

Linda Bell said: “Congratulations Mrs Paget, well deserved. St Bede’s definitely got their excellent reputation because of your contribution. During the years you were there you set high standards which now precede you.”

Susan Sadler added: “Congratulations on your OBE. Well deserved. Just a pity they had to wait until you had retired. You were one of the best and the children thought you were great.”

Pat Clarke said: “Congratulations, well deserved. You were a great teacher when my sons were at St Bede’s.”
