CHILDREN have designed their own t-shirts to pay tribute to victims of the Manchester terror attack.

Pupils came to Moorfield Primary School in Widnes today wearing tops with hand written messages declaring ‘United We Stand’ and ‘I Love Manchester’.

It follows a suicide bomb blast at the Manchester Arena on Monday night when 22 people were killed and 120 injured, moments after singer Ariana Grande finished performing.

The Halton View youngsters were invited to wear their favourite team shirt over their school uniform as part of a ‘true colours’ day.

Head teacher Kathryn Heyes said: “This is a day to raise awareness and celebrate diversity and inclusion.

“They can wear t-shirts from any team, club or society they belong to such as football, rugby, brownies, beavers, judo, basketball or dance.

“This year, however, many of our pupils chose to come into school wearing ‘I Love Manchester’ t-shirts in acknowledgement of the awful events this week.

“Children had taken the time and effort to customise the t-shirts themselves.

“It has been a profoundly moving but uplifting day.”

During the day children explored cultures, religions and other aspects of an individual’s identity that may influence their interactions with others and inform their world view, as well as influencing the way others perceive them.

Miss Heyes added: “This way we can promote the message that we can all be different and support different things but still get along with each other.

“During the day we talked about being the best person we can and explored core values such as respect and tolerance.”
