A MEDIEVAL siege in full costume is being staged at Norton Priory Museum today.

Visitors can watch knights battle on the palisade wall at Runcorn’s ancient monastic site on Saturday and Sunday.

Several assaults will be mounted to demonstrate the skills and tactics to tackle the besieged troops.

Knights, servants and villagers will explain what life was like 800 years ago as they set up living history tents.

There will be demonstrations throughout the day including cooking, crafts, and skirmishes on the field. Audience development officer Claire Broadhurst said: “This will be a great day out for all the family and history fans.

“This is a chance to find out what life was like 800 years ago when the priory was still new.

“Our re-enactors love to talk to visitors and share their enthusiasm and knowledge for the past.

“People can see knights in full costume and try on some armour.”

Activities take place from 11am to 4pm at the museum and walled garden.
