A DRIVER and passengers had a lucky escape from a car when it rolled down an embankment and somersaulted onto its roof.

The red mini cooper was travelling along Weston Point Expressway from Clifton roundabout in Runcorn yesterday when it left the carriageway.

A spokesman for Cheshire Police said: “Officers swiftly attended the scene and found that a red mini cooper had come off the carriageway near to Bankes Lane and landed on its roof at the bottom of the embankment.

“The occupants of the vehicle were out of the car and stood at the side of the carriageway.”

North West Ambulance Service attended the scene and the occupants of the vehicle were treated for shock.

The incident happened shortly after 1pm.

The investigation into the cause of the collision is currently ongoing although early indications suggest that a second vehicle, a silver car, may have been involved.

Enquires to trace the vehicle are currently underway.
