A RUNCORN teenager has been arrested following the assault of a cyclist in Halton Lodge.

Police say the 18-year-old was arrested shortly after 8.30am yesterday on suspicion of section 18 wounding with intent.

He has since been released under investigation pending further enquiries.

A 16-year-old boy and a 15-year-old boy, both from Runcorn, have also been interviewed in relation to the incident.

These two boys voluntarily attended Runcorn police station and were questioned under caution.

The arrest of the 18-year-old suspect follows an assault on 39-year-old Chris Shields at around 8.30pm on Thursday, April 6 in which he was seriously injured.

Detective Inspector Clare Coleman said: “I would like to thank the local community for all of the support and information that they have provided in relation to this case which has resulted in yesterday's arrest.

“While this arrest has taken place, our investigation remains on-going and I would encourage anyone with any information about the incident to contact the team here at Runcorn.”
