CHILDREN are gaining a valuable insight into how organisations operate thanks to business mentors.

Pupils at Ormiston Bolingbroke Academy (OBA) have completed work experience at 21 different firms.

Teachers say the skills and experience they acquired will allow them to stand out to potential employers.

The 31 students found the experience extremely valuable.

Denika Lunt, who spent two days with Anita’s Blossoming Flowers and Gifts, said: “The placement was definitely a good confidence builder. I learnt new skills and enjoyed dealing with customers.”

Alex Murray who spent the day at O2/Telefonica working in IT, said: “The placement has made me more confident and I learnt loads about IT.”

Lucy McCoy and Luke Burgess-Whitehead spent a day at Warrington Peace Centre with Football Coaching Company SG International.

Lucy said: “It was a great experience and it has made me want to pursue a career in sports coaching even more than before.”

Amy Jarvis, OBA careers co-ordinator said: “Participating in a work experience enables our students to be valued members of our community.

“It also assists them in choosing the right sector to work in when considering a career path in the future.”
