A MAN was seriously injured after being attacked in Victoria Park in Widnes.

The 26-year-old was socialising with friends at the Horse and Jockey pub on Birchfield Road, Widnes when he was involved in a short altercation outside the pub.

Afterwards, at around 11.40pm on Saturday, April 22, he started to make his way home through Victoria Park with a group of friends.

Whilst walking through the park, the man became separated from his friends and was approached by an unknown attacker and seriously assaulted.

As a result of the incident the victim suffered serious injuries and was taken to hospital, where his condition is described as stable.

Investigating Officer Detective Constable Tina Jackson said: “This was a serious incident and we are committed to doing all that we can to trace the person responsible for this attack.

“The victim sustained serious injuries as a result of the incident and has been left extremely shaken.

“Enquiries into the incident are ongoing and as part of the investigation I’m keen to hear from anyone who believes that they have any information in relation to the incident.”
