A £1.2 MILLION housing development in Widnes has been given an International Green Apple Award for The Built Environment and Architectural Heritage 2017.

Crossways has 12 properties including apartments, bungalows and houses.

Nicky Harris, development manager at Halton Housing Trust, said: “I am delighted that our Crossways development has been recognised for a Green Apple Award as the development was a new kind of venture for us but one that has ultimately a great success.

“We are committed to making affordable, best-in-practice homes for customers.”

One resident said: “They are really beautiful. Every aspect has been designed for comfort and the surroundings have been well thought out.”

The development was praised for its design and environmentally innovative features, such as sun pipes disguised as old fashioned chimney pots, which brings natural light into the house.

Living green fences which enhance the garden and are maintenance free were commended.

The properties are also very energy efficient with mechanical ventilation systems keeping fresh air flowing throughout the homes, helping to alleviate fuel poverty.
