BUILDERS of tomorrow have been given a tour of a £9.7 million Runcorn housing development.

Pupils visited a building site on Latham Avenue as part of the Open Doors campaign which promotes careers in the construction industry.

Builder and developer Seddon is constructing 95 properties for Halton Housing Trust on the former home of the Grange infant, junior and nursery school.

Duncan Williams, regional director at Seddon, said: “Open Doors is just one way the industry is helping people to get real experience of what it’s like to work in construction.

“Seddon has long been dedicated to creating routes for young people into the sector and delivering high quality training.

“It was encouraging to see so many school children learning about their career options for the future.”

Nicky Harris, development manager at Halton Housing Trust, said: “Open Doors offers young people a great opportunity to get an exciting insight in to what is on offer to them in a career in construction.

“Showing students around our Latham Avenue development gave them a real view into the many elements of working on a new build development, which we hope the children found helpful and informative.”

The Open Doors event is run by Build UK in partnership with the Construction Industry Training Board.
