A BUDDING politician is hoping to become an ambassador for children.

Runcorn schoolgirl Mollie Pountain has been selected to compete in Junior Miss Cheshire on May 14.

The 13-year-old made her catwalk debut last year in Miss Junior British Isles, and made it to the final nine.

The Ormiston Bolingbroke Academy pupil currently holds the title Junior Miss Runcorn.

Her mum Lynda Ludgate, 47, from Murdishaw, said: “Mollie has a lovely character. She is bubbly, very bright and is liked by everyone.

“She wants to be a politician and campaign for women’s rights.”

Keen gymnast Mollie, who has four sisters and a brother, now has to raise more than £200 for Variety, the children’s charity.

She plans to run a cake stall at school and her mum is holding a car boot sale at Winwick in Warrington on Easter Sunday.

“We’ve already raised more than £100,” added Lynda.

“Helping disabled children is very close to our hearts as one of Mollie’s friends has cerebral palsy.

“We want to raise as much money as we can.”
